IWD celebrated with calls to stop violence against women
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Arunachal Pradesh today celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) with calls to stop violence against women and ensuring that they are given rightful place in the society.
Addressing a meeting organized on the occasion of IWD at Sidhartha Hall here today, Nyishi Nyem Acham (NNA) General Secretary Likha Kiran Kabak, urged every one to stop violence against women which is a crime. “Nothing can be achieved from violence,” she said and exhorted all to stand united to end violence against the weaker section of the society.

Day does not mean only for women but is equally important for men also. He informed
the gathering that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nabam
Tuki has taken up several steps to ensure safety and security of women and girl child.

Earlier, a procession was taken out from RK Mission Hospital premises at around 09:50 am and culminated at Siddharta Hall.
About 250 participants, including young women, mothers, human rights /social activists, students from Dera Natung College, Don Bosco College, residents from Jote and Poma, Itanagar and Popunallah took part in the procession by holding placards, banners and shouting slogan to end violence against women and to create awareness on the theme amongst the citizens and the significance of International Women’s Day.
In another function organized by Women Studies and Research Centre, Rajiv Gandhi University, Sahitya Academy Awardee and Chief Information Commissioner YD Thongchi stated that “women give strength to men.” Citing examples of all the brave women, he went on to explain how education had been instrumental in bringing about change in the mindset of the women for fighting for their equal rights and social causes. He also shared a few of his observations on the status of women in Arunachal Pradesh and explained why girl child is an asset to our society.
He also spoke about his novel “ Sonam” on which the famous award winning movie with same name was made.
Prof. A Mitra explained the role of education in “gender employment” and “gender role.” Although the gender gap of Arunachal which is better than the overall national gender gap, he expressed concern over the decreasing trend of gender gap of the state in the last two decades.

Addressing the large gathering on the occasion, Women’s Welfare Association (WWA) Chairperson Sontung Lowang Bangsia appealed to the women folk to accord top priority to girls’ education adding that lack of proper education among the women was the main cause of women’s sufferings and backwardness. She said that the time had come for the women to come out of the kitchen and compete against the men in tackling the everyday problems. She said “We cannot be dependent on men for everything.”
The Chairperson asked the gathering to draw inspiration from the women achievers in different fields.
A number of other women leaders also spoke on the occasion and asked the women to maintain unity in their fight against injustice in the society.

School education director physically assaulted, two arrested
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Director of School Education Tapang Taloh was allegedly manhandled and assaulted by two youths in his office chamber here today, city police said.
After being informed about the incident, City Police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) Surender Kumar swung into action and managed to arrest the two culprits, namely Meje Taku and Yurum Tamin, the Capital SP informed in a release.
A case has been registered in Itanagar Police Station under section 448/353/332/34 IPC and investigation launched.
Meanwhile, all officers and officials of the Directorate of School Education and SSA Rajya Mission here have vehemently condemned the physical assault on the Director and demanded the administration/police to bring the culprits to book immediately and award them exemplary punishment. They also demanded to provide foolproof security arrangement in the Directorate of School Education and SSA Rajya Mission here during office hours.
The meeting further decided to close down the office of the Directorate of School Education, Itanagar, SSA Rajya Mission, SCERT and DDSEs offices across the state until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA) has strongly condemned the physical assault on Taloh, who is also vice president of AOA.
“This is a cowardly and criminal act which deserves condemnation,” said AOA in a release.
While condemning the physical attack on the Director of School Education, Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) urged the authority concerned to punish the culprits as per law with no outside intervention of any kind.
Reacting strongly to the reports of physical assault on Taloh, Adi Students Union Itanagar (AdiSUI) appealed to the Home Department to initiate immediate action against the persons involved in the incident.
While condemning the incident, AdiSUI demanded the state government to provide adequate security to every department for smooth functioning of offices.
“Barring Ministers and high ranking officials, no director or joint director is secured in their respective offices,” AdiSUI claimed.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has expressed gratitude to the Government of India for heeding to the request of the State Government. He expressed hope that the initiative would bolster economic activities and offer gainful employment to locals of the border areas.
Army distributes books to school children
TUTING, Mar 8: The Indian Army has its units deployed at various locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Many of these remote locations remain cut off from the rest of the nation due to communication bottleneck. Over the years, the Army has undertaken a number of developmental projects for the benefit of the local population under ‘Operation SAMARITAN’. This year too, the Tuting Battalion of the Indian Army has undertaken three major Operation SAMARITAN projects in Tuting sub division of Upper Siang district.
One of the projects was materialized today with distribution of Books and Stationery to the students of Primary School Bishing located near Tuting.

Massive fire at Bhalukpong market claims many shops

BHALUKPONG, Mar 8: A huge inferno at heart of Bhalukpong town under West Kameng District burnt down four shops and destroyed as many while dismantling the shops to control the raging fire at around 2.20 p.m here today.

Seppa team visit Ruksin rubber cultivation site

RUKSIN, Mar 8: Large scale rubber cultivation in hilly terrains and foothills of East Siang and West Siang has attracted commercial horticulturists of the country and abroad.
Rubber and tea plantation have found their mooring at foothills of Ruksin in East Siang bordering Dhemaji district of Assam.
Observing the rapid progress of rubber cultivation in the region, the authority is reportedly planning to set up a regional office in the belt.

Being motivated with the development of rubber garden in Siang belt, Talang has pledged to mobilize the farmers of his area to boost their household economy through rubber cultivation.
During the last month too, teams from Australia and Japan visited the rubber plantation sites of greater Ruksin area and took stock of the progressive activities.
It may be recalled that the Rubber Board India (RBI), considering the rich potential of rubber cultivation in the hilly terrains of the state and its consequent economic gains involved, has been implementing massive plantation project in Siang belt.
Rubber plantation is under rapid progress in hilly terrains of East Saing, West Siang and Upper Sing districts and Dibang Valley district signaling economic boon for the farmers.
An average 65 tones rubber worth Rs 1.23 crores has been produced from the area every year, which is supplied to a Guwahati based marketing agency, informed the rubber field officer here.

Improve educational scenario: SUMA
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Students Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) has appealed the Education Minister to improve the education scenario of Dibang Valley, Changlang, Longding and Tirap districts with utmost priority.
During its week long tour to the schools in eastern part of the state, the SUMA observed that ‘pathetic educational scenario needs to be given utmost priority’.
The Union said the GHSS Anini has been facing acute shortage of Senior Teacher in Hindi, Economics and English and in Changlang, the Rangfra Govt. College has been facing infrastructure problems and shortage of administrative staff.
In Tirap district, the Wangcha Rajkumar Govt College, Deomali needs improved infrastructure including additional class rooms, construction of buildings for library, laboratory, staff quarters. The college also urgently need teachers in various departments, it said. It further demanded reopening of defunct boys hostel of GHSS Deomali.
Similarly, in Longding district also Govt. Primary school Chatting needs attention of the education department for infrastructure development. Steps should be taken for upgradation of the school, it said.

Every continuous evaluation process is on through CBSE website by affiliated CBSE authorized Heads of all the Institutions which CBSE restricted to disclose publicly. In this process nothing can do other than CBSE guidelines by all the Heads of the Institutions. But in case of technical defect or failure, the Directorate of School Education can extend help to the concern head of school through CBSE.
